Real Drive 23: Check Out the Boobies

Don't let the mammaries distract you. This episode is still about the search for Kushima's brain, literally and figuratively. Oh, and the Boobs Lady, too.
EPISODE 23: Human Order - Individual

Kushima's condition: braindown with no memory. This is similar to Haru's condition when he was in a coma. As for Holon, since Haru no longer needs care assistance, she remains at Denriken, helping out Souta, who is now trying to trace Kushima's work in the hopes of finding a clue to finding his consciousness.

what it feels to lose someone

With Kushima gone, Souta takes the position of Acting Director. Holon acts as his secretary of sorts and only that, as Souta still hasn't gotten over the fact that her memory has been wiped out. He acts coldly towards her.
let's toast

At the Artificial Island stadium, a party is held on the evening before the 20th Anniversary celebration. The Secretary-General (whose name is Erika Patricia Takanami) encounters Jennie Yen and it's not a pleasant meeting. Apparently, Jennie has made it so people think it was the Secretary-General responsible for what happened to Kushima.

cupping a feel

Minamo, who is helping out at the party as the Secretary-General's PA, hears the rumors and for some reason feels sad. That is, until Sayaka, with Yukino in tow, arrives and secretly cups a feel, much to Minamo's embarrassment.
sister, meet the ex-girlfriend

Later, Minamo goes to meet the Secretary-General at her quarters. After making the connection that she is Souta's brother, the older woman chats her up, not only about Souta but also about her thoughts on the Island and how Kushima also figures big in her life.

flashbacks

It appears that the Secretary-General first met Souta at a ceremony -- her first public engagement as 'Secretary-General' as a matter of fact. Apparently, Souta was disappointed to find that it was her giving him the plaque instead of Kushima. In the conversation that followed, the newly inducted Secretary-General found out that Souta idolized Kushima because his scientific works mirrored his own martial arts philosophy: harmony. From that first meeting, one thing led to another.

But of course, the Secretary-General does not tell Minamo who she is to Souta.
missing youth

The Secretary-General reveals that she looks up to Kushima for his work on the Island. But what she does not understand is why Kushima tried to abort the research on the meteorological nanomachines. In her view, aborting the plants would mean losing 20 years' worth of credibility. But Minamo only says that if they lose credibility, they can always start from scratch. Basically, what she's saying is that if they all believe in the Island like they say they do, then rebuilding is always there as an option. As an example, Minamo cites how Kushima rebuilt the Artificial Island after the first got destroyed 50 years ago.

picking up where you left off

At Denriken, Souta has his hands not only with his tasks as Acting Director but also as the person in charge of the meteorological nanomachines plants. Later, he visits Kushima's room and while there, he encounters the Secretary-General who gives him an important clue to allow them to link up to Kushima's brain.
Kushima's AI

However, it's not Kushima who comes back but only an emergency AI program which Kushima himself created. It is this AI that shows them why Kushima is set against the meteorological nanomachines plants. Apparently, Kushima has a theory that one of the factors that lead up to the Earth Order is the heat generated by the meteorological nanomachines, causing the sea to act up, eventually leading it to destroy all technological devices within the vicinity. In a manner of speaking, the Earth Order is like an omen of more terrible things to happen.

Jennie is a villain

This theory of his is supported by the fact that 50 years ago, there was a similar meteorological nanomachines research conducted after which the Earth Order occurred. Furthermore, more recent events prove up his theory: the "noise" at the jungle island as well as the mini-Earth Order that occurred in the first episode of the series.

But because Kushima has no concrete proof to support his theory, he does not reveal this to the committee. Instead, he only asks to delay the installation of the nanomachine plants in the hopes that he could find more evidence during the impasse.
secret glance

Convinced by Kushima's theory, the Secretary-General attempts to use her position in order to abort the installation of the meteorological nanomachine plants. Only to get the surprise of her life when Jennie Yen informs her that due to a leak of information about a certain stockholder, she is now suspended from service.
COMMENTS:

Ack! Jennie, you fiend! On a side note, what kind of name is Jennie??? Especially for a guy with a moustache. LOL

I still think Kushima is gay and in love with Haru. I mean, even his password has Haru's name in it: HAL / M. "HAL" of course could be read as "Haru" if you're Japanese and suffer from the same speech phenomenon of confusing your "Rs" for "Ls."

Ah, so the Secretary-General isn't evil. She turns out to be a pawn in all this. And here I was just thinking how awesome it would be if she turned into an evil diva BIATCH with a rack to die for and killed everyone on the island.

Speaking of racks, Sayaka cupping a feel for Minamo is the work of pure evil genius! XD

The secret glance shared between Souta and Holon gives me hope for their ship. Sure, they were talking about rebuilding the Island but subtlety people: it could also mean rebuilding relationships. In Holon's case, it would be literally starting from scratch.
