2012 Summer Anime Short List

source

Well, it's almost the end of the month and you know what that means! It's SUMMER! At least for you people over on the other side of the pond. Mine's just about to end. Boo-hoo. Anyhoo, here's my short list for the upcoming season:

Moyashimon Returns - The guy who can see bacteria with his naked eyes and his intrepid friends are back! I saw the first series, also the live-action version, and enjoyed both of them, so of course I'm going to check this out.

Natsuyuki Redezvous - It's about this guy who falls in love with a flower shop owner and works for her in order to get close to her only to find out that the ghost of the man she can't forget lives in her apartment. It sounds just about the right kind of weird. Could be interesting.

Aruvu Rezuru: Kikai Jikake no Yousei-tachi - The title's a mouthful, there's gotta be a shorthand for that. But the story is about a boy who tries to find his sister, who got lost online. Hm.

Oda Nobuna na Yabou - This one's co-produced by Madhouse so it could be promising. Only problem is that it's another one of those Sengoku Jidai anime. We get one or two every year. And the twist to the hackneyed plot isn't even knew because I distinctly remember some other anime series that feature the usual Sengoku Jidai characters as female versions of themselves.

Chouyaku Hyakunin Issho: Uta Koi - This is an anime interpretation of an anthology of old romantic poems. Hmmm. This could be a gem, another Aoi Bungaku in the making. If not that, well, there's always the plus of having some of the poems from Chihaya Furu animated for us. I'm surprised Madhouse isn't behind this.

Ookami Kodomo no Ame to Yuki - This is about a family of wolves disguised as humans. By Madhouse. Yes.

Natsuyuki Redezvous -- a Josei anime? Oh yes!!! I'm looking forward to this too.
