In any case, as with most series that I followed this season, I wasn't too keen on Ryouko's Case Files as the show progressed and merely blogged about it out of some strange compulsion to finish what I started.
Not that I didn't enjoy myself while watching this series. This show does have its ups. I love the interaction between Ryouko and Izumida (the man-slave jokes never get old) and some of the action scenes were nicely-rendered. Impossible, yes, but my eyes were pleased.
Anyhoo, on to the FINALE:
And what a finale it is!
It turns out the tank that approaches Ryouko and Izumida is manned by -- who else? -- Lucienne and Marianne. With their help, Ryouko proceeds to force her way through the enemies' ranks, blasting away anyone or anything that has the audacity to stand in her way. All this while she stands on top of the tank (in perfect view of any discerning sniper XD).
Meanwhile, Yukiko and the useless gonads are making progress in their escape. While Yukiko manhandles an NPP soldier and renders him unconscious, Akira and the other tools with her cheer her on.
Back to the main action, Ryouko discovers that Ruriko and her cronies have already left the Shiba headquarters, heading instead towards JACES. She and Izumida arrive at the area just in time as Marianne and Lucienne send out missiles to take out the Tokyo Tower, which is being used by Ruriko in order to control the soldiers through the mutant mangroves. Ruriko praises her for her unpredictability but promises that everything is not over yet.
Meanwhile, the gonads realize that the soldiers have stopped firing. Yukiko, however, seems to have lost a screw as she continues firing her guns, laughing hysterically and shouting that everyone should bow to her. She stops only when she runs out of bullets. XD
When Ruriko threatens Ryouko with the anti-terrorist robot, Izumida again uses his body to shield her from the line of fire. At this, Monami-chan urges him to come with her. But Izumida makes his Oh-my-gosh Corny Speech of Profound Man-Slave Wisdom (TM), which basically means that he's staying by Ryouko's side because he likes to be tied up and whipped by a dominatrix and that wouldn't Monami-chan consider joining their forces instead because he rather likes the idea of having two dominatrixes lording it over him?
Ryouko thinks the idea is HAWT and concurs to it wholeheartedly.
Long story short, Ryouko pulls out a perfume and throws it up the air. Izumida then whips out his gun and shoots the bugger, causing the contents of the perfume bottle to rain over Nonagase (yeah, he's there too) and Ruriko. Unfortunately for the two, the bottle actually contains something that would negate the effects of Hangon, and we discover something totally unexpected:
Ruriko and Nonagase are both Hangon dolls, like Monami-chan.
One last look at familiar faces before the second season begins, 'coz I'm not sure I'll be picking it up, much less blog about it:
Well, I was totally wrong about my prediction that Monami-chan would die. Of course, that won't happen. This show has maintained its lightness and never makes the mistake of taking a route that remotely resembles actual story-telling depth.
Did I enjoy it? Plenty. Plus, the production values has not once downgraded. The music and art has remained pretty much consistent. But in the end, it's a forgettable series.
