Winter 2009 Anime Preview

I did not know these things come out in November. Darn. I haven't even finished any of my Spring 2008 list yet and now we have this. Anyhoo, not much to look forward to this winter as it seems most of the releases are sequels of shows I haven't even watched.

Zoku Natsume Yuujin-chou
OFFICIAL | ANN | Wikipedia

The series follows Natsume Takahashi who has inherited the "Book of Friends" from his grandmother Reiko. The book contains the names of spirits, some of which are extremely powerful. Natsume has taken it upon himself to return these names to their owners and since then monsters of all kinds show up around him.

COMMENTS: I digged the first season. Randomly picked it up one day and inhaled it all in eight hours. If you don't like supernatural/fantasy anime treated as slice-of-life, stay away from this one. Otherwise, it's a pretty interesting show and quite absorbing once you get started. Zoku Natsume Yuujinchou is from the same studio who gave you Kure-nai and Baccano!

Viper's Creed
OFFICIAL (Animax) | OFFICIAL | ANN | Wikipedia

The story revolves around the members of a private military company (PMC), and the uneasy tension between them and the regular military after a war that caused massive environmental destruction. (ANN)

COMMENTS: Two words: Toyoguchi Megumi. She's my favorite seiyuu. I love her as Sei (Maria-sama ga Miteru) and as Revy (Black Lagoon). She is, in fact, the only reason why I'm even including this show in the list. That and the possibility of a dark future with political undercurrents.

Kemono no Souja Erin
OFFICIAL (NHK) | ANN | Wikipedia

The story is about a young woman who is drawn into a war between kingdoms. She has the ability to command animals, including dragons, as if she was playing a musical instrument. (AniDB)

COMMENTS: This is an adaptation of a manga by Uehashi Nahoko (Seirei no Moribito). I loved that series. Also, the anime is done by Production I.G. What more can I ask for? Look at the art! Pretty ~

Minami-ke Okaeri
OFFICIAL (StarChild) | Wikipedia | ANN

This slice of life comedy focuses on the everyday life of the three Minami sisters: Haruka, the responsible eldest sister, Kana, the airhead but occasionally thoughtful middle-child and Chiaki, the aloof, possibly tsundere youngest sister.

COMMENTS: This show was actually quite enjoyable. I haven't been able to bring myself to blog about the second season, even though I included it in my LIST OF DOOM. I don't think I'll be blogging the third season either, but I'll be sure to watch it on CR if I have nothing better to do. Even now, I still can't make up my mind which is my favorite sister. But considering that I am the youngest in my family, I can identify more with Chiaki. I just don't have a Kana though.

Maria-sama ga Miteru 4th Season
OFFICIAL | Wikipedia | ANN

Maria-sama ga Miteru’s story revolves around the students of the Lillian Girls’ Academy (a Catholic school), and can be considered character-driven, focusing on interactions between the characters rather than any sort of ongoing plot or goal to attain. At Lillian Girls’ School, there is a tradition known as the sœur system (sœur being French for “sister”), in which a second, or third-year student, the grande sœur (”big sister”), will give her rosary to a junior student, the petite sœur (”little sister”), and promise to look after them and guide them. (Wikipedia)

COMMENTS: I watched all the previous seasons. Obviously, I'll watch this latest installment. I might even blog it if I'm not too busy. I hope the original Roses would feature prominent, mainly 'coz I want to see Sei.

I watched an episode from the first season Natsume Yuujin-chou...I couldn't get into it. I guess Supernatural anime isn't for me =P. What led me in to the anime is the appearance of the main character...she looks like Alphonse from FMA, lol.

It gets better after a few more episodes. It's not easy to like, especially if you're not into fantasy. It gives a Mushishi sort of feeling. Then again, only if you liked that series. If not, then it's hopeless for you. XD
