World Destruction First Impression: Surreal

WANTED: World Destruction Committee
More Screencaps from World Destruction 01
OP: Zero (AAA) [4shared]
ED: Kaze no Kioku ~to the end of the world~ (Aimmy) [4shared]

After watching the first episode, it's not actually half-bad. World Destruction is set in a surreal world where humans are the underdog and beastmen comprise the ruling class. The gap between classes is wide, so much so that humans are reduced to mere livestock that beastmen can use as sacrifice to their gods, etc.
busted! in the World Destruction universe, humans can't work in a beastman shop

The protagonist, Kylie, is a human boy who disguises himself as a beastman, by putting on fake ears, in order to find work at a beastman restaurant. While there, he meets Morte, a human girl who has been tagged as a member of the infamous World Destruction Committee. At first, Morte thinks that Kylie is a beastman so she takes him as hostage when agents from the World Safety Committee arrive to capture her.

Unfortunately, the ensuing action causes Kylie's fake ears to fall off and thereby reveal him to be human. From then on, Morte and Kylie are stuck with each other, trying to evade their pursuers at the same time chasing after Morte's one true objective: the destruction of the world.

It is interesting to say the least. The idea of protagonists in the story aiming to destroy the world is a nice twist on traditional storytelling. When was the last time you heard of a story quite like this? I mean, isn't it always about "saving the world?" Now we have World Destruction turning that old concept over and giving us something fresh to chew on.
too close for comfort

So far I like the two main characters. Morte is awesome without being bitchy. I mean, she's tough, yes, but not overly violent when people around her mess up. She reminds me of Allison from Allison and Lillia. Let's see her hold out this character in the following episodes.
woot's happening??

Kylie also seems like an okay character. He's not stupid, not naive, street-smart in fact (if coming up with the disguise is any indication), and laidback. There is another character that I probably should mention: the bear dude. He is like the anime counterpart of Puss in Boots (in Shrek) but who does not possess the same sense of humor, which, of course, makes him even more hilarious.

Their adventure begins. If there is anything, you have to admire the visual feast World Destruction has to offer. From the character designs -- I love Morte and Kylie's costume, just not sure about Morte's humongous sword-thingy -- to the smoothly rendered action sequences, it's a beautiful first episode. And look at the colors! Lovely.

I'm looking forward to this show. I hope it delivers.
