COMMENTS:
Alright. So, I haven't really been following this series much because it feels like watching the ugly, younger sister of Black Lagoon but jute, who is a huge fan of girls with guns, is still following it and insists that I post something about this show. But since I can't really talk about any of the episodes (which I haven't watched), I guess I'll just have to make do with this paltry offering. This is the outro theme of Jormungand. The show may not be much, and honestly, its music isn't much either, but this little baby is, after a little acquired tasting, pretty good. And now that I think about it, Yanagi Nagi is a familiar name because it's the same artist who did the ending theme for Shiki, yet another anime that I couldn't get into.

Claymore 127: In which Deneve shows her bleep-bloop

OH MY DENEVE BABY. SHOCKERZ. (BUT WAT ABOUT DA CHEELDRENZ?)

In this chapter...EXPOSITION LIKE WOAH. Also, Wise Miria is wise. She's figured out that Cassandra the Dust-eater is somehow connected to Priscilla (which, she is having been essentially resurrected using one of the latter's arms but Miria doesn't know this) and is now heading towards her who is, of course, now fused with Clare and the Luciela/Rafaela Ball of Weirdness and Doom. Miria speculates that Priscilla may be controlling Cassandra in order to free her from the seal, which leads her to truly worry for Clare since Priscilla possibly combining with Cassandra and destroying Luciela/Rafaela will certainly make her the strongest force on earth. Helen suggests killing Cassandra before she can free Priscilla but Miria doesn't like this because that would leave Clare still sealed in the Ball of Weirdness and Doom. So, instead, she plans to bust Clare out of there no matter what before Cassandra can unite with Priscilla and things explode all around them. Everybody is all, "Sounds like a good plan." And then, Deneve shows her breasts to Raki because Helen thinks Raki may die from the shock of seeing Clare's actual body once they extract her from the seal and because Deneve is cool like that. Then everybody is in agreement that they'll rescue Clare and Raki is coming because he's probably the only one who can reach Clare in the state that she is in and the trainees stay behind because they're just babies.

COMMENTS:
LOL who thought this manga was coming to an end? It never even occurred to me. Although I did see the "Claymore - End" at the end of Chapter 126, I just took in stride. People, don't over analyze. Sometimes, things just are. And look, while nothing essentially happened in this chapter, at least we can all look forward to plot advancement in the coming chapters. Claymore Day, here we come!

YAH, DENEVE. I MEAN, I THOUGHT THAT SIGHT WAS EXCLUSIVE FOR HELEN.

Sakamichi no Apollon 9: Great Ball of Yarn!

Things come to a head in this episode of Sakamichi no Apollon. If you remember, last week Sen found out a few important things about his friends. His upperclassman crush, Yurika, is apparently getting with "big brother from another mother" Jun and his childhood best friend, Ritsuko, is apparently holding a secret flame for him. However, in this episode, we learn that Sen continues to misunderstand a few things. As it turns out, Ritsuko has finally realized that she doesn't really like Sen in that way but likes Kaoru instead. She shows her newly discovered affection in the form of a Christmas gift: a pair of winter gloves that she knitted herself. Meanwhile, despite the fact that Yurika had made an utter spectacle of herself with Jun, nothing really happened between them and the latter is skipping town again in favor of Tokyo where he has found a tentative means of livelihood. She escapes an arranged marriage meeting in order to see him off at the station but as soon as Jun finds out the future in store for her, he impulsively pulls her into the train just as it leaves the station.

Is that end of their story? God, I hope so. They're annoying. If it had been Kaoru with Yurika that night, the boy would have wasted no time getting it on. LOL Jun, you should take some pointers from Kaoru on how to get a girl. You obviously need it. You're lucky Yurika is as messed up as she is. Else you wouldn't even come close. On the other hand, way to go, Kaoru! Ritsuko is yours. All you need to do now is figure it out before it's too late and the fickle girl changes her mind again and falls in with that fairy who fancies himself a rockstar.

[Manga Review] Kono S o Miyo!

So I recently picked up this manga called Kono S o Miyo! by Kitazaki Taku. It's about this boy who's got a major insecurity issue about the weird-looking birthmark on his butt. It looks like a tattoo though he considers it more as a stigma. Apparently, when he was a kid, his childhood friend, Makoto, saw the mark and made fun of it to his face, causing psychological trauma which lasts until adulthood. This, along with his unrequited love for another childhood friend, Chizuru, is the reason why at twenty-two he is still a virgin. However, due to a series of strange circumstances, he discovers that his birthmark has strange seductive powers, which can make any woman (so long as she's already had her first period and has not yet reached the menopausal stage) want to have sex with him.

Err.

You can tell this manga isn't for all ages. While I wouldn't call it erotica, there are a lot of sex involved, which I kind of expected actually and is often within context. What I did not expect was how this manga made me laugh. The premise itself is downright funny, add to that the hilarious adventures that the main character, Rin, has to go through as he discovers the scope and limits of his new-found powers.

There are some surprisingly deep and emotional moments, too. Rin's emotional scars due to his stigma run so deep that he can't really trust anyone. The only thing going for him is his cat-dog relationship with the tsundere Makoto and his infatuation for the beautiful but much older, Chizuru. Personally, I prefer Makoto because she's a pretty awesome character in her own right even though she pretty much sealed her own fate. Ah, but she's probably too good for Rin anyway. Maybe she should just end up with Takako-chan, the lesbian who took and had her own virginity taken by Rin in a laugh-out-loud episode where the two of them are pretty useless together.

The story is told mainly from Rin's point of view so we rarely get any glimpse into the minds of the other characters. This actually makes for a pretty compelling and unpredictable read. One moment, you think you know what the character is thinking or feeling, the next you start to doubt if your earlier conclusion was even right at all.

The manga is also somewhat unique in its portrayal of side characters. They aren't one-dimensional at all and you can actually imagine them carrying their own story lines even as the main plot takes its course. The only exception here is the antagonist in the story, who appears for the moment as a stick figure of the typical jerk.

The art is beautiful. The background is nothing to write home about but the characters are so well-drawn, especially Chizuru. Looking at her design, it's not that hard to imagine why Rin is still so hung up on her even though she's got like eight years on him. This is funny since I actually hated Chizuru for a while because she is obviously taking advantage of Rin, and for the sick fact that this has been going on since he was a boy of seven. Seven! What the eff.

Anyway, the manga is still ongoing at 11 volumes in its home country with seven volumes scanlated and available online. If you like this sort of thing, this is recommended. It was fun while it lasted. Now I may forget about its existence until the next chapter comes up. I've put it on my watchlist on Mangatraders just in case. :)

Sakamichi no Apollon 7: Rock 'n' Roll

Things come to a head, with Kaoru not even speaking with Sen and Sen putting the moves on Yurika only to find that Brother Jun has been living in the basement of the Mukae Shop. Sen figures out who Yurika really likes after she runs away in tears just as Brother Jun comes out with a disparaging remark about her, prompting the younger man to punch him. Meanwhile, Kaoru gets paired up with Ri-chan to handle the applications for the school festival. It's still a little awkward but both are determined to patch things up between them. Not so with Sen and Kaoru though as Sen continues to hang out with his new rock 'n' roll homies. However, when the big day comes for the rock 'n' roll band, something goes wrong on the technical side which forces Kaoru and Sen to have an impromptu jam session much to the delight of the student body. It looks like the boys have patched things up again, except that in the next episode, something else happens which may or may not change their friendship forever.

Ever since their performance at the school festival, both Sen and Kaoru are drawing an inordinate amount of attention of the female persuasion. To her complete and utter confusion, Ri-chan is also realizing that she isn't entirely immune to Kaoru's charms as she previously believed, while Kaoru is still under the belief that she is still head over heels for Sen. Meanwhile, Yurika has her own period of drama when she finds out where Brother Jun has been staying and ends up not only cutting her hair but also living with him. The situation causes her to act differently, which is the reason why she frequently gets called by her teachers. Sen suspects what's truly going on but apparently doesn't suspect enough as he is shocked, not to mention heartbroken, when he sees the truth for himself. Kaoru, being the good friend that he is, comforts him by hinting somewhat broadly that he still has Ri-chan, not knowing that Ri-chan may already be having a change of heart. Sen only realizes who Kaoru is talking about when a casual remark from one of his adopted kid sisters leads him to remember a particular time in childhood when Ri-chan told him she wants them to get married.

Uh-oh. Dun-dun-dun!
